Aging and Color Wash:

The aging process involves applying stain or pigment to previously painted molding or woodwork to give the appearance of antiquity. As with the staining phase of the gilding process, the stain collects in recessed areas of the surface, adding depth and bringing out details.

The color wash process is similar to the aging process, however the stain is replaced with a colored glaze that complements existing room colors. The glaze can be applied in various ways and with various tools—from rags to brushes—in order to achieve different effects.
